A Scorpion Seal and Werma Program

In 2010, after the Sacred World Assembly, the Sakyong wrote an extraordinarily beautiful text on vajrayana kyerim (generation stage practices). Its purpose is to help students master the ability to draw the dralas into their personal lives and into a societal context. The Sakyong has requested that Acharya Christie Cashman formally teach this text to his Scorpion Seal students as well as to Werma practitioners who have attended a Rigden Abhisheka.

As so many of us have discovered, generation stage practices are at the heart of the vajrayana path, and yet they can be challenging and, at times, even disheartening. The text addresses these challenges by laying out a step by step progression from the magnetizing dualistic world of perception into the mind's natural capacity to imagine, and finally into the sacred world of pure vision.

The program will include a lung for the kyerim text, intensive Werma practice, daily talks and personal interviews. Programs at residential centers will include evening classes for each year of Scorpion Seal practice.

Participants are requested to attend the program in its entirety, if at all possible.

The lung will take place on the first morning, and all talks and discussions will take place at 4 PM each day.

This retreat counts toward the Werma program requirements.

Prerequisites
Vajrayana Seminary or Sacred World Assembly and Rigden Abhisheka.

Schedule
The retreat meets daily from 9 AM to 6 PM.
On Tuesday, February 18th we will meet from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Acharya Christie Cashman entered the Shambhala Buddhist teachings in 1971, dedicating herself to intensive study and practice, and eventually teaching a full range of courses, from introductory meditation intensives at Naropa University to Vajrayana sadhana classes and Shambhala Training levels. For many years she taught at the three-month Vajradhatu Seminary and worked closely with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche on curriculum design and implementation. Christie moved to Nova Scotia in 1987, and in subsequent years taught at several Warrior and Kalapa Assemblies. From 1999 to 2003 she served as international executive director of Shambhala Training, and today she continues to engage in Shambhala and Buddhist curriculum development and the training of teachers. Christie and her husband live in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
