A Sukhavati Ceremony for Robert Bartlett

Our Dharma friend, Robert Bartlett, passed away suddenly in February 5th. Robert was a valiant soul and devoted to his work teaching autistic children. He was connected to San Francisco Shambhala for a number of years and attended and staffed events from time to time.

Robert lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over four decades. His time was divided between teaching in California’s public school system, practicing with the Shambhala community, writing for publication, visiting with family and friends, and enjoying the outdoors. His favorite pastime was hiking in the extensive parklands and wilderness preserves of Northern California, especially in mountainous terrain and on the Pacific coast. Down and Out in Special Education is the first book that Robert wrote.

In the Tibetan Buddhist tradition it is understood that the individual’s mind transitions from this life to the next after death through the intermediate state or Bardo. In this transition, the mind has heightened awareness. Historically, it is taught that if the mind in the Bardo is not focused, pain and confusion is experienced. In this state of heightened perception the mind is more receptive to being helped through the difficulties faced in the Bardo. The Sukhavati ceremony is performed for the benefit of helping the deceased transition through the Bardo by lessening suffering, fear and loss and offering focus and clarity.

Please mark this date on your calendar and consider joining us to help Robert in his time of transition.
