Shambhala Day

    Room: Main Shrine Room

Shambhala Day marks the beginning of the New Year—the Year of the Wood Sheep—and represents one of the most important traditions of Shambhala Buddhism—with an address by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.

Based on the traditional Tibetan New Year’s celebration of Losar, the day is calculated astrologically according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, and changes every year to coincide with the annual lunar cycles.

Shambhala Day is a time for us to express the wealth and richness of our spiritual and cultural heritage through feasting, conviviality, elegance and pomp. As is customary, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche addresses the worldwide Shambhala community through an onlinehook-up, which includes centres and groups from six continents and over thirty countries around the world.

This is also the time when members of the San Francisco Shambhala community are encouraged to make a financial donation order to help support the activities of our center and the worldwide mandala.

Children are welcome to attend, and parents will be responsible for caring for their own children. If you are interested in assisting with childcare during part of the program, please contact Jeri: elfmaid [at] gmail [dot] com.

    Generosity Policy
The San Francisco Shambhala Center is funded solely by your membership and program donations. Thank you for your generosity as you consider what you can pay for each program at our Center. We strive to price our programs in a way that accurately reflects the financial need of our Center and the cost to us of producing the program.

We are committed to offering our programs to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. If you are unable to meet any of our listed pricing tiers please contact us to discuss your current needs. In addition to offering scholarship pricing for those in need, we also offer the option of paying for some programs in installments.

In order to request use of the Generosity Policy, please contact the person listing under the program’s contact information, or email: info [at] sfshambhala [dot] org, at least one week prior to the program you wish to attend.

    What is the Patron Price?
The other aspect of our Generosity Policy is our Patron Price. Those who are able to offer more than the regular program price can select the Patron Price option.  By selecting this option, your generosity is helping to cover the costs of those who may not be able to pay the full price of the program.
