Northern California Shambhala is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communication

Summary Description
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the overall publicity of all Northern California Shambhala, Inc. (NCSI) events and initiatives within both the Shambhala and greater communities. They are responsible for maintaining an elegant, dignified and accurate representation of the Shambhala lineage through all forms of media, including NCSI websites, email announcements, and social media.

The Director will serve in a leadership position, supporting and guiding the overall mandala of communications volunteers within the region. The Director will oversee marketing and communication support to NCSI with specific emphasis on Regional programs, Berkeley, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley Shambhala. They will be responsible for increasing attendance at all regional programs and events through timely and consistent marketing and communications.

Required Qualifications
Demonstrated Marketing and Communications Experience

  • Marketing and growing event attendance.
  • Layout and design of websites and marketing materials. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suites, MailChimp, and WordPress.
  • Various media forms, to magnetize diverse audiences.


Demonstrated Effective Communication Skills

  • Excellent and adept interpersonal and public communications skills. Ability to work with diverse and multi-identified groups.
  • Ability to work with diverse and multi-identified groups. Ability to write, edit, and communicate effectively with color, brevity, and clarity.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Represent, articulate and support the Shambhala lineage through different media.
  • Create the magnetizing public face of Shambhala.
  • Ensure continuity in tone in how Shambhala is presented.
  • Form, inspire and lead the communications team.
  • Develop a long-term marketing strategy.
  • Analyze outreach efforts and craft adjustments as necessary.



  • Under direction of regional leadership, publicize and support regional programs.Support center communications representatives.

  • Manage marketing budget.
  • Manage complex timelines and multi-task with timely responsiveness.In conjunction with a communication team:

    • Update and enrich Shambhala’s regional websites.
    • Update the Shambhala Database as needed.
    • Update Shambhala’s marketing and communications tools.
    • Oversee ongoing publicity, email, social media, etc.



  • A commitment to a three-year term.
  • 10 hours per week.
  • Benefits:
    • $1,000 a month.
