Cheerful Year of the Wood Horse to you!

Yesterday morning we gathered early at the San Francisco Center to celebrate Shambhala Day. After exchanging many hugs and cheerful greetings, a group gathered outside, in the cleansing drizzle, for the opening Lhasang ceremony. We invited down the magic energy of enlightenment and drala as an auspicious beginning to the new year.

Acharya Melissa Moore shared a short teaching about the ceremony. We then chanted verses, offered juniper and other substances to the fire, and ended in a procession around the block and through the center chanting the warrior’s cry:

Lhasang 2“KI KI, SO SO ASHE LHA GYE LO TAK SENG KHUNG DRUK DI YAR KYE!”

Many of us then gathered in the Meditation Hall to watch a video roll call from centers around the mandala by President Richard Reoch, the 2014 Year in Review Video, and finally the worldwide, annual address by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. Below are links to two two of these videos.

We  listened to presentations by Joanne Martin Braun, our Regional Director, Acharya Melissa Moore talked about the Year of the Wood Horse, and our Director Cody McGough spoke about aspirations for the new year.

Arelly Sanchez-Shackett takes her vow as our new Director of Practice and Education, we received practice books for the new year, made our financial contributions to Shambhala International, and gathered in the community room for delicious catered food.

It was wonderful to see so many community members gathered in the center to celebrate the new year.
